Paul Rodriguez’s NEW Skate Park in Los Angeles

P-Rod gives the community what it needs, an outdoor park that incorporates famous So-Cal skate spots into the natural fabric of the existing park - yeah, we’re jealous here on the east side.
In its continuing effort to give Los Angeles-area youth new places to play, Nike, The LA 84 Foundation and the City of Los Angeles joined Nike SB pro Paul Rodriguez Jr. and his dad, legendary comedian Paul Rodriguez, Sr., to inaugurate the Paul Rodriguez Skate Park at Ritchie Valens Public Park in Pacoima, California.

Leo Romero on Toy Machine

Leo Romero is now on Toy Machine. Leo was on Baker, but Toy Machine may be a better fit for him. After this addition, Toy Machine’s team is SOLID: Billy Marks, Diego Bucchieri, Nick Trapasso, Matt Bennett, Josh Harmony, Ed Templeton, Johnny Layton, Austin Stephens, and now Leo Romero. I think it was a good move.
Antwaun Dixon and Jereme Rogers Open a Tattoo Shop!!!
Two of skateboarding’s biggest names, Antwuan Dixon and Jereme Rogers, have teamed up to announce their plan to open the doors of a prolific tattoo shop on LA’s Sunset Strip. As you know, the heavily inked pair of skateheads are devout fans of tattoos, its culture and individual artistic expression, and its permanence on one’s life so this business opportunity makes sense. Backed by another, yet undisclosed financial investor, and a trio of skilled ink slingers, Jereme and Antwan are gearing up for a launch party with Pink, Lil Wayne, and a host of celebrities and friends in their shop early next month.

The Strokes Are Back In Action!

For the first time in ages, the Strokes are back in New York, hard at work on album number four in their midtown studio. "We have three songs," Julian Casablancas tells the S.S., three weeks into the sessions. "I would say it's going great. We have a lot of work to do, though."
It's been more than three years since First Impressions of Earth, and what's helping the process is good vibes and honesty. "It feels like we're new," says Casablancas. "We didn't used to be honest — there would always be minifeuds over stupid shit. Now, if Nick [Valensi] and Fab [Moretti] or anyone are saying they like it fast or slow, we'll talk about it, as opposed to saying, 'Well, I never liked you sister.'"
Casablancas says that they've resisted jamming on old tunes; instead they're forging ahead. "Some of the new stuff has a Seventies vibe, like Thin Lizzy or Elvis Costello," he says. "But then some of it is bizarre music from the future that we're trying to tone down to sound catchy. So we're trapped between the future and the Seventies.

Our source picked up Active’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing which explains how Active’s rapid expansion over the past few years required significantly more investment and financial resources - while revenues essentially stayed the same.

Video Check Out: Joseph Mairena
Joseph is really, really good at skateboarding. Tricks seem to be a little too easy for him. It took me a few days to figure out which way he skated, he claims regular but I’m still not sure. Apparently rails aren’t scary either to Broseph. He’ll for sure be jumpin’ down somethin’ switch way before most are even warmed up. He’s just all around good. So check out my dude Joseph, he’s got some serious talent.—Ryan Gallant

Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza Foundation To Open Its First Skate Spot in Los Angeles

The Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza foundation is pleased to announce it has begun development of its first “Safe Spot, Skate Spot” in Los Angeles’ Lafayette Park this January. The Lafayette Safe Spot Skate Spot will be completed by late February 2009.
The Safe Spot Skate Spot is a program developed by The Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skate Plaza Foundation to support legal and safe skate spots for communities interested in developing skateable terrain for their skateboarders. Based from the skate plaza concept, the Safe Spot Skate Spot program will provide an alternative option for communities to develop real legal street skating locations given limited budgets or space restrictions. Visit the new updated website at www.skateplaza.com.
